The workshop will provide practical instruction and assistance to tribal decision-makers and professional staffs and federal facility managers and regulators in the following areas: first, it will help tribal professional staff and decision-makers understand basic principles of risk assessment, risk management and risk communication and the different ways they are applied in federal facilities cleanup; second, it will provide tribal professional staff and decision makers the tools they need to knowingly participate in risk-based environmental cleanup decisions; third, it will help federal facility managers, regulators and technology developers appreciate the wide range of tribal interests that are affected by risk-based decisions.fourth, it will help federal facility managers and regulators understand the legal drivers that require their consideration of tribal interests in their risk-based decisions; and fifth, the workshop will identify the barriers to and opportunities for knowing and informed tribal participation in risk-based environmental cleanup decisions |
